The Apology Anniversary 2024
Reflecting on Australia’s Indigenous People’s Apology Anniversary 🖤💛❤️
On February 13, 2008, a momentous chapter in our nation’s history unfolded as Prime Minister Kevin Rudd issued a heartfelt apology to the Stolen Generations. The impact of past government practices, including forced child removal and assimilation, has left profound scars on the lives of Indigenous Australians. 📄
The Prime Minister expressed:
“We apologise for the laws and policies of successive Parliaments and governments that have inflicted profound grief, suffering and loss on these our fellow Australians. We apologise especially for the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, their communities and their country.”
This apology marked a pivotal moment, signifying overdue respect and solidarity with Indigenous Australians. It initiated a journey towards policies and legislation designed to empower Aboriginal Australians once again. 🦘
At Kildare Road Medical Centre, we acknowledge the importance and sensitivity of this anniversary. If you wish to discuss the impacts of this day on you, our compassionate team is here to listen and support you. 🤝
